Formentera, a bohemian paradise
The island of Formentera, just off the coast of Ibiza is famous as a getaway and place of inspiration for some of the 20th century's best known musicians – from Joni Mitchell to Bob Dylan and James Taylor, many of whom came here to escape, find peace, and to create masterpieces. In centuries past it was home to Bronze Age and Roman settlements, saw conquest by Norman Kings and lived in fear of raids by Barbary Pirates. For those with an interest in its colourful past, you'll find archaelogical sites at Ca na Costa, Cap de Barbaria and Cova des Fum.
